Sir Ian Botham took his second eight-wicket haul at Lord’s when he took 8-103 during England’s defeat to West Indies in 1984.

In a match noted for being one of the best ever at the Home of Cricket, Botham began the Test with a humble score of 30 before being given the opportunity to shine with the ball.

Sir Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Larry Gomes, Sir Viv Richards, Sir Clive Lloyd, Jeff Dujon, Roger Harper and Joel Garner all fell to the prowess of Botham, who despite conceding 103 runs to his name, still showed why he was considered to be one of the great all-rounders.

Botham’s appearance on the Honours Boards was his sixth, and he was close to reaching it again in England’s second innings when he hit 83.

Despite Botham’s best efforts, England still fell to defeat, with Greenidge scoring an unbeaten double-hundred to guide his side to a nine-wicket victory.

Even though he ended up on the losing side, Botham was still awarded the man-of-the-match for his efforts in the match.
