I.T. Botham 6-90 v Sri LankaBack to boards

Sir Ian Botham made the Honours Boards for the seventh time in the summer of 1984, when he took 6-90 during the drawn Test versus Sri Lanka at Lord’s.

The all-rounder had only taken one wicket in the visitor’s first innings as they posted a hefty total of 491/7d before he could only manage six in England’s reply in a Test that was seeming to be a rare bad few days for Botham.

However, with the draw looking inventible, Botham tried his best to bring England back into the match with signs of his class with the ball.

After removing Sidath Wettimuny, Botham tore through the Sri Lanka batting line-up, claiming the wickets of Ranjan Madugalle, Roy Dias, Arjuna Ranatunga, Duleep Mendis and Ashantha de Mel, with the tourists declaring with a score of 294/7.

Botham’s figures saw him bowl 27 overs, with six maidens and six wickets as the match eventually was concluded as a draw after five days at Lord’s.
