In a Test, famous for Sir Ian Botham’s eight-wicket haul during West Indies’ first innings, the hosts opened the batting first and, despite Graeme Fowler’s excellent century, they could only manage a score of 286 in the first innings.
Marshall was responsible for the rest of England’s batting line-up from struggling to make runs.
Firstly, he dismissed Chris Broad before taking the wickets of David Gower, Allan Lamb, Mike Gatting, Neil Foster and Bob Willis to seal a terrific six-wicket haul.
Marshall would go on to get another two wickets in England’s second innings before Sir Gordon Greenidge scored an outstanding unbeaten double hundred to seal a nine-wicket win for the West Indies.
