After West Indies had only made 209 in the first innings, the focus was on Marshall and the rest of the bowling attack to bring the visitors back into the Test match.
Marshall began his dominant spell of fast bowling by taking the wicket of Chris Broad before also dismissing Graham Gooch, Allan Lamb, Paul Downton, Paul Jarvis and Graham Dilley to finish with figures of 18 overs, 32 runs conceded and six wickets taken.
West Indies pilled on the runs in their second innings with Sir Gordon Greenidge again scoring a century at Lord’s to leave England with a mighty target of 442 runs.
However, a further four wickets by Marshall denied the hosts any chance of a positive result with Gooch, Broad and Downton all falling again to his immense spell before Gladstone Small also saw his wicket taken by the fast bowler.
It gave Marshall his first 10-wicket haul at Lord’s and the third of his career to help seal a memorable victory for West Indies at the Home of Cricket.
