On the fifth and final day of the Test Match between England and Australia at Lord’s, the second of the Ashes Series, Stokes resumed the day on 16 with the hosts 96 for 4 overnight, leading Australia by 104.
All three results were still possible on the final day and whilst it looked at times difficult for either team to force a charge towards victory, Stokes reached his half-century from 106 balls and set about the task of batting for the rest of the afternoon.
He hit the accelerator after the lunch interval, striking Nathan Lyon for successive sixes into the Mound Stand and looked to take the attack to the Aussies, and with the time left in the game ebbing away, the draw looked increasingly like the most likely result.
He brought up his century off 160 deliveries, having hit ten fours and two sixes. It was his second hundred at Lord’s, following the stunning 58-ball effort against New Zealand in 2015.
