A Journey to Net Zero Carbon: MCC’s Net Zero Strategy

MCC has released a Net Zero Strategy to help lay out the steps required to reach its target of achieving net zero by 2040.

OF THE CHALLENGES FACING US TODAY, CLIMATE CHANGE IS AMONG THE MOST SIGNIFICANT, AND MCC IS VERY AWARE OF THE IMPACT CLIMATE CHANGE CAN HAVE ON CRICKET.

Examples include the increase in the number of rain-affected matches, changes to how pitches are managed, damage to facilities and the impacts on players and spectators during extreme heat.

Therefore, MCC has a duty to take the climate battle very seriously and do its bit to protect the global game. Whilst the Club has already made a lot of progress in terms of decarbonisation, a net zero strategy – A Journey to Net Zero Carbon – is necessary in order to determine an exact blueprint of the steps required to reach its net zero targets.

The strategy, produced in collaboration with Net Zero Group, sets out an ambitious programme of measures and targets which will lead to the club reaching its aim of becoming net zero by 2040, if not earlier.

The club aims to become net zero through a range of measures, including undertaking a significant programme of degasification at Lord’s largely by switching the use of remaining natural gas in the operation of the venue to renewable energy sources.

The strategy merely marks the start of a long sustainability journey for MCC, and the Club recognises that a lot of work will need to go into implementing the strategy.
