After Pakistan had scored 339 all out in the first innings, the leg-spinner began his demolition of the England attack by removing Joe Root before ripping through the remaining members of the host’s middle-order, to claim a first appearance on the Honours Boards.
England’s second innings continued in the same fashion, with their batsmen struggling to deal with the tricky spin of Shah, who took four more wickets to finish with match figures of 10-141.
It was a man-of-the-match display which drew plaudits from opposition including all-rounder Ben Stokes who claimed after the match that Shah was “the best leg-spinner since Warne”.
England would go on to draw the four-match series 2-2 despite Shah and Pakistan’s brilliant efforts in the first Test at the Home of Cricket.
