England made 206 all out after winning the toss and electing to bat first. In Australia’s reply, the tourists were in relative trouble at 189 for 4 but a stand of 82 between Trumper and Clem Hill, who himself made 135, ensured a lead was built.
Trumper marshalled the rest of the innings to see his side bowled out for 421, a first-innings lead of 215 over their hosts. England could only stumble to 240 in their second innings and Australia reached their target without losing a wicket to seal a ten-wicket success.
After a draw at Trent Bridge in the opening match of series, Australia took a 1-0 lead at Lord’s but neither side could force a win in the next three matches, and the victory at the Home of Cricket was enough to win the series.
