Coming into bat just before close of play on Day One versus Ireland in the one-off Test, Pope looked very comfortable against the Irish seamers and continued to play some stylish shots on the morning of Day Two.
He reached his hundred just after lunch before he continued to score more runs to reach his double-century in record-breaking time before being bowled the next ball.
His innings saw him face 205 balls, hitting 25 boundaries.
Pope was well supported by Ben Duckett who also got his name up on the Honours Boards in the same game. They shared a partnership of over 250 to help England put up a huge first innings total.
