Horne’s solid six hour innings of 100 at the top of the New Zealand order helped his side to 368 all out, as they took a 172 run first innings lead over England.
Choosing to bat first, the hosts had found Chris Cairns and Dion Nash in fine form, taking nine wickets between them and enjoying prime seam bowling conditions.
England fared better in their second innings but still could only manage 229 all out and New Zealand needed only 58 to seal a famous victory at Lord’s.
Horne made 26 of them as his side won the match by nine wickets, and after defeat at Edgbaston, turned the series around to win 2-1 and send England to the bottom of the Test rankings.
