After England won the toss, the hosts managed to post a total of 307 for their first innings and in response, New Zealand lost two early wickets with John Wright and Ken Rutherford both being dismissed to leave their side 5/2.
However, their wickets did bring Crowe to the crease who took his opportunity by scoring a brilliant century before being dismissed by Phil Edmonds for a score of 106.
The batsmen's innings saw him face 243 balls, hitting 11 fours and lasting 343 minutes at the crease.
Despite Crowe's efforts, the game fizzled out to a draw after five days with Graham Gooch hitting a century of his own for England in reply.
