Les Ames scored his second century at Lord’s, when he hit 120 during the summer of 1934 in the Ashes clash versus Australia.

The wicket-keeper’s innings lasted 262 minutes, facing 325 balls and scoring 14 fours as he and a century from Maurice Leyland helped England close their first innings with a score of 440.

Australia could only manage 284 and 118 (follow-on) as England went on to win by an innings and 38 runs in a mauling at Lord’s, with Hedley Verity taking a mammoth total of 15 wickets in the match.

The victory for England would prove to be their last taste of Ashes success at the Home of Cricket for a grand total of 75 years.
