West Indies won the toss and elected to bat. Opening the bowling for the hosts Dilley took four big wickets of Gordon Greenidge, Desmond Haynes, Richie Richardson and the dangerous Viv Richards before Gus Logie and Jeff Dujon steadied the ship. Dilley picked up the wicket of Malcolm Marshall later in the innings to make up his figures of 5-55 and help bowl out the visitors for 209.
In reply England scored a mere 165 due to a fiery spell from Malcolm Marshall who picked up six wickets. Dilley went on to pick up four more wickets in the third innings to make up 9 wickets for the Test.
However, his efforts were not enough as the visitors won by 134 runs after setting a huge target of 442 runs for England to chase in the fourth innings.
