Australia had won the first match at Manchester were Boon had missed out on a century getting out on 93 in their second innings. Allan Border won the toss and elected to bat in the 2nd Test and what followed was a run fest from the Australians.
Boon played some masterful strokes to get himself to 164 of 378 balls with a tally of 15 fours. He was well supported by Mark Taylor and Michael Slater with scores of 111 and 152 to their names respectively and an unlucky Mark Waugh who was bowled by Phil Tufnell on 99. Boon remained not out before Australia declared on 632-4.
Some skillful bowling by Shane Warne picking up 4 wickets in both of England’s innings helped Australia win by an innings and 62 runs.
