The 'Lord of Lord's' first century at the Home of Cricket was one of importance for his country in a Test where India were very much appearing like they were going to be defeated.
Electing to bat first, India could only manage a score of 96 in their first innings, with Ian Botham taking a five-wicket haul while Vengsarkar could only manage a duck.
England then declared after a total of 419/9, leaving India with a tough task to avoid defeat.
However, through Vengsarkar and Gundappa Viswanath (113), India managed to claim a draw.
Vengsarkar's score of 103 saw him face 295 balls, hitting 13 fours in the process and be awarded the man-of-the-match for his grit and determination.
