Vastly experienced and prolific at domestic level, the opener looked set to become a one-cap wonder for Australia but following the retirement of senior players, Rogers was recalled to the Test side at the age of 35 for the 2013 Ashes in England.
His experience of English conditions was key and the sight of Rogers making runs at Lord’s will have been a familiar one for Middlesex supporters, with the 2015 Test his 48th match at the Home of Cricket.
His 173 came from 300 balls and took over six and a half hours, putting on 284 for the second wicket with Steve Smith, Australia’s highest partnership at Lord’s.
In Rogers’ 25 Tests, he played fifteen of them against England and ten of them in England itself. There was no doubt his previous experiences of the Home of Cricket had inspired him to such a successful international career late in his playing life.
