Greenidge, who had made a half-century in MCC’s first innings total of 455 for 5 declared, capitalised on a slender first innings lead as ROW had decided to declare 34 runs behind.
He was not going to miss out a century second time around, as he struck 122 from 223 balls, in over five hours of batting. He was well supported by Graham Gooch, who made 70 off 118 balls and had also made a century in the first innings.
MCC declared on 318 for 6 leaving ROW 353 to win in the fourth innings, but after four days of world-class cricket in this showpiece match, the rain washed out the fifth day’s play and the match ended in a draw.
