Caddick had taken one wicket in the first innings as the West Indies were bowled out for 267 but England responded poorly, making only 134 as the devastating partnership of Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh claimed four wickets apiece.
That did not necessarily give a prelude to what was to follow. The Windies, with a line-up including greats such as Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, were bowled out for only 54 in 128 minutes and less than 27 overs.
Caddick, as Wisden commented, ‘literally went for the jugular’, bowling short at the West Indian batsmen which proved fruitful. Only Ridley Jacobs made double figures and the Windies crumbled to their lowest total against England, and third lowest ever. Caddick not only claimed sumptuous figures of 5 for 16, but also bowled eight maidens in his thirteen overs.
England reached their target of 188 with only two wickets remaining and went on to win the five-match series 3-1.
