In the match which saw South Africa's return to English soil after the apartheid-inspired international sporting ban was rescinded, Donald had witnessed his captain Kepler Wessels hit 105 in his country’s first innings as they were bowled all out for 357.
In reply, Donald showed his class, claiming the wickets of openers Michael Atherton and Alec Stewart, before following it up with the dismissals of Craig White, Phil DeFreitas and Darren Gough as England crumbled to a score of 180 all out.
Donald took a further two wickets in England’s innings as South Africa romped to victory, winning by a mammoth total of 365 runs in a historic encounter at the Home of Cricket.
